The company originated from the enterprise known as Cape Group Scheme Advisors (Pty) Ltd, which was established as an insurance brokerage on 1 May 1986. At the time the organization's primary aim was the management of pension funds and the provision of financial services to members of those funds.

Early in 1987 we were approached to design a voluntary funeral scheme for members of a church institution. In 1988 an agreement was reached with a leading insurer, in terms of which Cape Group Scheme Advisors (Pty) Ltd undertook the group funeral scheme administration on behalf of the insurer. This resulted in the establishment of the first administrator of funeral insurance in South Africa.

We acquired valuable experience over the ensuing years. Our product was marketed with great success among church institutions and funeral undertakers. Our strength lay in our ability to settle claims within twenty-four hours.

Over the years we became known among our clients as KGA ("Kaapse Groepskema Adviseurs"). As a result of our success in the market, we registered as an insurance company. KGA LIFE LIMITED was established on 1 January 1999.

We can proudly say that funeral group schemes constitute the very foundation of our existence. Today, approximately 60% of our claims are paid within four hours. This achievement has been a major contributor to the strong growth that our organization has shown over the years. We operate nationally with branches in the Free State, Gauteng, KwaZulu Natal, Eastern Cape and the Western Cape. Our head office is situated at 53 Canterbury Street, Bellville, in the Western Cape.

We provide cover to approximately 750,000 lives. Over years we have established ourselves in the voluntary group scheme market. In recent years we have recognized new and exciting opportunities in the corporate market and have subsequently introduced new and innovative products aimed at this market.
